Prima che il peggio accada: Angelo Orazio Pregoni minia the profiles of an absurd plausible and everyday hero.

Angelo Orazio Pregoni conceives "Before the worst happens" with the presuppositions of an elite work, so much so that he realizes it in a limited edition, taking care of every single detail. His pen, so true, then, unravels the dream, or rather the muffled part of the latter, telling a reality made of anecdotes as real as the limits of the absurd, far from the idea of the beautiful or the fairy tale. Yet this novel represents a counter-current literary innovation.

I dissigilate the hyaline packaging, almost with reverential respect: a firm whiteness fades the outlines of a female face, whose gaze seems to reveal a warning, perplexity, severity, or, on the contrary, a cautious invitation to enter, or, again, the expectation of a revelation, while, behind her, a shadow appears or disappears, suspended, then, on the threshold...

Discreetly, then, on the cover, cloaked in darkness, the author hides his name: Angelo Orazio Pregoni affirms himself against the light... then, struck by a ray of light, the outlines of the letters gradually give the edge a presence. Thus I unseal the book and a savoury mood seduces me: writing that perfume is a dark feather, celebrating a 'sustainable lightness of being', as it floats, in the land of alea, and, there, engages. 

Right from the title, a dot circumscribes the narrative diastema in a finite context; m fade, then, in a succession, pressing, of personalities, events and dialogues, which are lost and found, finally, in a surreal everyday.

The author's is a brilliant pen: he knows, exactly, how to undermine the features, both of the protagonists and of the illusion, creating soils, which belong both to psychological substrata and to divinatory, plausible possibilities, bordering on the real absurd, while giving them, at the same time, to the reader, through a writing art, which is modern lyricism of the usual living. 

In this way, curious figures are born, where being anyone means not getting lost in the webs of the socially acceptable: in Pregoni's Ithaca, Milan, Genoa or anywhere else, dawn breaks for everyone and everyone is a hero.

Also unmistakable is a descriptive refinement, consisting of punctuation games, admirably used to create the architecture of a vivid and lively narrative. Pregoni provokes, incessantly, by throwing 'colorful' anecdotes , like stones, in the reader's unconscious water they 'leap', ringing each other, and amassing existential mixes that deserve to be savoured. Thus, this novel represents a unique piece, with exquisitely unusual features. 

Gian Paolo Serino, GPS , introduces the author and accompanies him in this intense 'delirium'. in which getting out of the rut means becoming human again. "Before the worst happens. " was "loved", by Angelo Orazio Pregoni, in 2020: the graphic and qualitative refinement, addressed to this literary effort, the handmade binding, the above-mentioned motivations, as well as the choice to produce, only, 130 copies, numbered and signed, make it a privilege for few .
